Our review of «The Devil’s Dolls»: On VOD and Theaters on September 16th

dd_key_webAfter finally stopping a serial killer thru a manhunt that lasted for three years, a Mississippi detective finds him self dealing with a strange series of murders committed by people that never showed signs of aggression nor any relation between them. After exhausting all logical explanations, Matt and his partner Darcy will have to seek help from an expert in black magic and consider the possibility that the murders are the result of a curse coming the murderer they just killed thru some antique dolls, and that if they are not destroyed by dawn, more people, the detective’s daughter among them, will die.

“The Devil’s Dolls” (Also know as “Worry Dolls”, which in my opinion, is a tittle that makes more sense after seeing the movie) might seem a typical film about possessions, but luckily its something more interesting than that. At the beginning it looks like an slasher film (I don’t know if it was an homage or if I’m just associating everything with “Hostel” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) but quickly turns into a detective film effectively set in the horror genre, and although it might not have a big budget, it never gave me the impression that it fell short to the story it was aiming to tell.

«The Devil’s Dolls» : Una reseña sin spoilers.

dd_key_webDespués de haber logrado detener a un asesino serial tras una pesquisa de 3 años, un detective del área de Mississippi se encuentra lidiando con una extraña serie de homicidios cometidos por personas que no mostraban ningún tipo de agresividad o relación alguna entre ellos. Agotando todas las explicaciones lógicas posibles, Matt y su compañera Darcy tendrán que recurrir a la ayuda de una experta en magia negra, y contemplar la posibilidad de que estos asesinatos son consecuencia de una maldición creada por el difunto homicida a través de unas antiguas muñecas, y que de no ser destruidas antes del amanecer, cobrarán también la vida de la hija del detective.

“The Devil’s Dolls” (conocida anteriormente como “Worry Dolls”, que de hecho hace mucho mas sentido una vez que ves el filme) parecería ser una típica película de posesiones, pero para nuestra suerte, es algo más interesante que eso, y al principio parecería que va a presentar una historia de Slasher (no se si fue homenaje o ya de plano estoy asociando todo con “Hostel” y “Texas Chainsaw Masacre”) pero rápidamente se vuelve un filme de detectives en el género del terror muy centrado, y que si bien no cuenta con un presupuesto grande, tampoco me pareció que se quedara corto con la historia que quería contar.
