From Fantasia 2016: «Red Christmas»
Straight from the land of down under, we got via Fantasia 2016 an Aussie film that tries to give its own spin to the slasher genre, not so much for being set on the Christmas holidays, but for its very peculiar killer.
In «Red Christmas» we meet a family that has difficult relationships, to say the least, but that in this Christmas the tension gets even worse since Diane, the head of the family has decided to sell the house that was their home for so many years and to travel the world, leaving one of her sons, Jerry who has Down syndrome, in a assisted living facility center.
While some members of the family oppose the decision and others support it, a stranger wearing a big cloak and hood knocks at the family’s door, claiming that he is looking for his family, since the person that has been taking care of him for more than 20 years has recently died, and that he has a letter to be read to his mother . More out of courtesy and pity that anything else, Diane invites the stranger in, but soon the awkward conversation takes a strange turn, upsetting Diane very much when as the letter is being read it becomes clear that the stranger comes from a dark place of Diane’s past, more specifically when a religious fanatic attacked an abortion clinic were she was at, not as a nurse, but as a patient.
