Facing one of the coldest winters in history, and with the lowest fishing catches in several years, Eva, a widowed owner of a small fishing station in the Icelandic region, along with the crew of her fishing boat, witnesses how a foreign ship hits the reefs in the open sea and starts sinking.
Having to choose between saving the crew of the shipwreck and risking the safety of her own people, especially when their supplies are extremely low, Eva makes the difficult decision of forcing her and her crew to remain on land, able to only witness the tragedy.
Forced by the lack of fish and supplies, Eva and her crew sail into the sea to salvage whatever they can from the shipwreck the next morning. This ends up taking the life of Ragna, the fishermen’s captain, and also the life of a survivor that managed to stay alive in one of the reefs. Seeing that their lives are in danger, the fishermen go back to the shore, leaving the rest of the survivors of the shipwreck to their own devices in the reef.
The next day, the bodies of the sailors from the shipwreck appear on the shore, and the fishermen give them a burial. However, they all ignore the warning of Helga, an elderly woman that assists Eva in the fishing station. The lady warns them explaining that due the way those sailors died, they will come back to life now as Draugr: a type of ghoul with supernatural powers that will seek revenge, and won’t stop until all of the people in the station are dead.
