As many horror fans know, there is a growing trend of horror films taking advantage of several iconic fictional characters who are falling into public domain recently, to put them as villains in very gruesome stories. The turn finally came for the iconic mouse from the Disney company, Mickey (Or to be exact, his version from the short “Steamboat Willie”). In “Screamboat”, we see how the crew and passengers of the last ferry in New York for the night will have to fight for their lives against a psychotic anthropomorphic mouse that has an appetite for human flesh and a wicked sense of humor.
Ok, I don’t need to explain more of the plot, as I am sure nobody is expecting a masterclass in screenwriting. The idea is just to see how a mutant rodent is killing a group of new yorkers in the most brutal and sometimes funniest ways possible, and if we throw some middle age women that may or not be cosplaying as Disney princesses into the mix, everything will be fine and dandy.
The film knows its assignment and delivers, but was it good? Let’s discuss.
