Alex Garland, writer of 28 Days Later and Sunshine, makes his directorial debut with the stylish and cerebral thriller, EX MACHINA, which will receive its wide release on theaters On April 24, 2015. The cast includes Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, and Alicia Vikander
From the Press Release: Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company’s brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac).
Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test-charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated–and more deceptive–than the two men could have imagined.
You might not know it yet, but I’m a sucker for all the stories revolving A.I.’s and the reflexion on the definition of «Self»,»Conscience» or «Identity». So even if it seems a little bit predictable on the trailer, I’ll give it a fair shot when I see this film. I just hope that the trailer hasn’t spoiled the best scenes or the twist (I’m looking at you «Terminator Genisys»), AND that the «big reveal» is NOT that Caleb is the real A.I. being tested, who by the way during the whole film, thinks is human.
So… What do you guys think?
