«Tenants»: 7 floors of horror… but at least the rent is cheap! (now on VOD!)

I think most of us can agree that the only thing more terrifying than seeing how expensive renting a new apartment has become, is finding yourself stuck with the worst neighbors possible and unable to move out. Monsters I can deal with, crazy neighbors that wake up at 4 A.M. to do aerobics with the TV full volume, not so much!

And being a huge fan of horror anthologies, I was very interested in “Tenants”, the new film just released on VOD this Tuesday 24th, from Cranked Up Films and that was directed by Blake Reigle, Jonathan Louis Lewis, Sean Mesler and Buz Wallick.

Here is the official synopsis:

“After waking up in an unfamiliar apartment complex, a woman desperately searches for her sister while being hunted by a shadowy figure. As she makes her way through the building, unspeakable horrors befall the tenants she interacts with.”

I would highly recommend watching the trailer AFTER seeing the film, as I think it gives away too much, and this is a film you definitely should give a chance.

But why?

Because here you will find  body horror, monsters that come from everyday items, weird infections, alternate dimensions, roommates that literally try to kill each other, vengeful ghosts, and an interesting tale of a twisted way to keep a family united.

Do you need more reasons?

(By the way, I described the plots in no particular order on purpose… No spoilers here!)

Like all anthologies, some stories are better than others, but I think I can safely say that all of them bring a good tale to the table.

If anything, there was one story that dragged a little bit too much for me, but I would also say that this was one of the very rare cases where the story seems to be very typical going from point “A” to “B” and “C”, but instead went from “A” to “B” to “WTF”?. You will know which one I mean when you see it.

My favorite story was also the shortest one. It went straight to the point and without telling us much about the main character, we still got enough to totally empathize with him and cheer. It actually made me chuckle.

The acting overall was good, and the wrapping story (the woman looking for her sister) was actually well linked with the other ones. The special effects were very good and most of them were practical. There is some gore, but nothing that will traumatize you for days, and one of the goriest pieces (no pun intended) is played for laughs, and very effectively I might add.

I cannot really think of anything negative that makes this film bad. I liked it a lot, and I think we have seen TONS of bad anthology films, or ones where only a couple of stories are worth your time. “Tenants” is a very good collection of stories and has something for every horror fan. I’m crossing my fingers for a sequel.

You can see it now on VOD, and I definitely recommend you do check it out.

The film was directed by Blake Reigle, Jonathan Louis Lewis, Sean Mesler and Buz Wallick. The stories were written by Sean Mesler, Mary O’Neil and Buz Wallick.
